Two police officers including an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and a Constable were injured and admitted to the Puttalam Hospital following a traffic collision in the Palugassegama area on the Puttalam-Anuradhapura road.

Mullaitivu ASP C.K. Ratnayake and PC Akila Ruwan were traveling in a double cab from Mullaitivu to Colombo when the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a Margosa tree at around 2.00am this morning.

A spokesman for the hospital said that both the ASP and constable are not in serious condition.

Police suspect that the constable, who was driving the vehicle, may have fallen asleep on the wheel.
