A statement need to be recorded from a former officer attached to the President’s Security Division in connection with the murder of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) apprised Court today, Ada Derana reporter said.
The observation was made when the case was taken up for hearing before the Colombo Magistrate this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Colombo Additional Magistrate rejected the bail applications submitted on behalf of former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake and former Crime OIC of the Narahenpita police Sumith Perera.
Senanayake was arrested by the CID on May 23, for concealing evidence pertaining to the murder of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen. He was questioned by the CID for several days before he was arrested. Former Crime OIC of the Narahenpita police Sumith Perera was also arrested for allegedly withholding evidence pertaining to the case. Thajudeen, a Sri Lankan ruggerite and former Havelock SC captain, was killed in Colombo in May 2012.
The suspects will be produced before the Magistrate again on August 3.
