The case against Venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero will be taken into consideration on September 20, Ada Derana court reporter said.
The decision was made when the case was taken up for hearing before Colombo High Court Judge Nissanka Bandula this afternoon (02).
The Attorney General filed indictment against Dhammaloka Thero for the possession of an elephant calf without a valid permit on 11 May.
The Thero, who was arrested and subsequently remanded, was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court earlier.
Dhammaloka Thero of Alan Mathiniyaramaya Temple in Polhengoda has however categorically denied allegations leveled against him with regard to the two and half year-old elephant calf found kept inside the temple premises and has maintained that the elephant had been abandoned at the temple following a pageant held in 2014.
