Tried my best to unite SLFP and go forward - Amaraweera

Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera supporters are pressing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to take a decision regarding party members who are taking part in opposition rallies and that they have been patient enough.

He stated that, as the General Secretary of the UPFA, he too has to accept partial responsibility for the delay in taking certain decisions.

“I tried my best to unite the SLFP and go forward. I still do my best to prevent the SLFP from splitting,” he told reporters in Colombo.

If not all of them could have been removed one by one, Amaraweera said, adding that even today around 10 MPs who participated in the Joint Opposition’s protest march are members of the party’s central committee. “Everyone was invited.”

“Which group is most happy about the protest march? The UNP is the most happy.”

The people who made that happen are the ones who staged a fast outside the UN and made the entire international community angry towards Sri Lanka, he said.

He stated that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was treated like a king and made to walk on red carpets is now getting burnt in the sun, being made to walk the streets, being pushed and shoved.
