A court order has been issued to investigate into the misplacement of several documents of the controversial 2006 MIG aircraft deal. The order issued when the case was taken up for hearing before Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna this afternoon (09), Ada Derana reporter said.

The financial police investigating the matter apprised the court that several documents of the controversial deal are missing, thus an investigation need to be carried out.

The Magistrate has also directed the police to take legal action if required against those responsible.

Earlier, police sought a court order for getting Interpol’s assistance to arrest Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga in connection with the incident.

Weeratunga, a Ukranian resident faced corruption charges during the purchase of fighter aircraft for the Sri Lankan army, after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was defeated in presidential elections in January last year.
