Navy apprehends 4 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

The Navy has arrested four local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using monofilament nets in the seas off Mundampiddi Periyaaru.
The fishermen were arrested by naval personnel attached to SLNS Buwaneka located in Nachchikuda in the North Central Naval Command, the Navy said in a statement.
Along with the suspects, a traditional boat (Wallam) and 4 monofilament nets were also taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons and belongings were handed over to the Mannar Assistant Director of Fisheries for further investigations.
