14-year old kills his 15-year-old friend in Welipanna

A 14-year-old has been arrested on the allegation of beating to death his 15-year-old friend with a club in Welipanna area, the police said.

The victim who was reportedly bowling denied delivering a wide ball while the batsman claimed it was a wide and an argument ensued between the two players, police said. The batsman then attacked the bowler with a stump, it was reported. The victim was badly injured and later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Utugama area in Welipanna, according to police. His remains are deposited at the Kalutara hospital pending an autopsy.

The arrested teenager will be produced before a Magistrate tomorrow (26) morning.
