Even as host Pakistan put off the 19th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) following the decision of some members states not to attend, South Asian experts and parliamentarians have asked the SAARC leaders to find an alternative venue for the next summit at the earliest possible date.
This was stated at the three day-regional conference on SAARC’s effectiveness held here which ended Friday, where parliamentarians, diplomats, think tanks and experts from SAARC member states participated.
According to chairman of the conference organising committee and former Nepalese prime minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, a suggestion was made to seek an alternative venue to ensure that the 19th SAARC summit was held either on the scheduled date of Nov 9 and 10 or at the earliest possible date.
