UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena today accused Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake of kneeling before large multinational corporations while asking others not to advise him on economic affairs.
He stated that they had urged the Minister to increase the special commodity levy on cigarettes, which are the cause of cancer and other diseases, to Rs 20 per cigarette and earn an income of Rs 82 billion.
“That can be done very easily. But the Finance Minister who is kneeling before multinational corporations is telling us not to advise him,” he told reporters in Colombo.
He charged that the minister’s nakedness visible to everyone now.
“We may have not learned this craft yet but we are still students,” he said, adding that the minister should be able to listen to even “students” when they say something good.
