From the first place, the Prime Minister was eyeing to strengthen his powers, JO member and UPFA MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara says.

The observation was made while he was speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (17).

“However the President has likely realized this recently,” Nanayakkara added.

“It feels like the President made his public outburst last Wednesday against the “politicization” of law enforcement institutions including the Criminal Investigation Department, the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) and the anti graft commission after getting up from a deep sleep,” he added.

He also accused the FCID of going beyond the powers of the Independent Commissions and the Constitution.
