MCs not to collect unsorted waste from Tuesday

All the Municipal Councils in the country have decided to refrain from collecting garbage unless they are segregated from tomorrow (01).


The agreement was reached a during discussion held earlier with the participation of the Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils, Faiszer Musthapha, Secretary of the Ministry, Kamal Padmasiri, all the Municipal Commissioners and other officials. 


Therefore this decision will apply to all residences, shops, schools, hospitals and state institutions.


Disposed waste should be segregated under three categories as biodegradable waste, non-biodegradable waste and plastic/glass.
 

Police have been instructed to take legal action against those who violate the proper process of garbage disposal from 1st November with the support of the tri forces. 


Meanwhile, the public is requested to complain regarding offenders to the Police by calling 119 or 011 - 2 58 71 24, 011- 2 59 31 11 the Police Environmental Division.
