Four arrested for illegally trapping sea turtles

Sri Lanka Navy personnel arrested four suspects after discovering turtle meat and a sea turtle alive from a fishing boat, during a search carried out at Gurunagar Jetty.
Naval personnel attached to SLNS Welusumana located in Mandathivu in the Northern Naval Command arrested the 4 suspects who were onboard and 2 fishing nets in their possession were taken into naval custody.
The apprehended persons and items along with the turtle meat and live sea turtle were handed over to Jaffna Fisheries Inspector for onward action, SLN said.
