UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena says that it has been recommended by the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka not to privatize ‘the National Payment Platform’.
Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (15), he pointed out that the government is attempting to transfer the authority of the National Payment Platform to three private companies.
“Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has already apprised the state institutions on the instructions to implement this proposal,” he said.
Gunawardena went on to say that the CBSL does have the authority on the financial matters of the state, and the hidden facts behind the bond scam were disclosed due to this reason. “To steal people’s money, they are eying to privatize this institution,” he stressed.
“The ultimate result of the Budget 2017 will be high cost of living,” Gunawardena said.
He also said tax revenue in Sri Lanka in 2014 stood at Rs.1050 billion and it has increased to Rs.1821 billion by now. “It is a 73 per cent increase since 2014,” Gunawardena said.
