Rural Economic Affairs Minister P. Harrison says he would resign from his post if someone can uncover facts to substantiate the allegation that he manipulated the prices of rice.
He expressed this view while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo on Tuesday (03).
Leading rice mill owner Dudley Sirisena, brother of President Maithripala Sirisena, made the allegation during a news conference held last week.
“They say I accept a commission from the mill owners. I would not hesitate to resign from my post if someone can prove it,” he said.
He also went on to say the present government has introduced a tender procedure through the Paddy Marketing Board to issue paddy. “Earlier, a letter from the Minister was required for that,” he said.
