People living along the banks of the Maha Oya have been advised to remain cautious as the sluice gates of the Rambaken Oya are to be opened.
The water level of the Rambaken Oya reservoir has reportedly increased significantly due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the Ampara District.
Ampara Irrigation Director Nihal Siriwardena said that the sluice gates would be opened within the next 24 hours if the prevailing adverse weather condition continues.
Meanwhile the water levels of the Nilomba Oya Wewa, Kiralagas Wewa, Polwathu Wewa, Bhuthana Wewa, Dumana Wewa and other streams connected to the reservoir have also increased.
