It is a ‘deadly blow’ to the free education that the Medical Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) continues to oppose the South Asian Institute of Technology & Medicine (SAITM), the National Freedom Front (NFF) said.
NFF MP Jayantha Samaraweera expressed this view while speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Colombo on Friday.
He underlined the MCSL holds the view that SAITM does not meet the required standards to produce medical students. “The students get squeezed due to this issue,” Samaraweera said.
The MP also went on to say the issue can only be resolved by raising the standards of the SAITM.
“There should be a mechanism to accept SAITM students through a placement test, as same as the exam on students who come here after studying in abroad,” he said.
