Customs seize gold, cigarettes at BIA, Chinese woman arrested

A suspect was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle two gold strips sheets out of the country on Sunday.   


The custom officials have found the gold canceled inside his luggage, a spokesperson said. The estimated value of the seized gold is over Rs.2.5 million.


Meanwhile, a Chinese woman was also arrested by the customs at the BIA for transporting cigarettes illegally to the country. 


A stock of 296 cigarette cartons worth Rs.3. million was found from the possession of the suspect, the official added.
