The Ministry of Higher Education stated that the enrollment of medical students into the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) will be suspended for a period of six months.
Several decisions were taken with regard to the private medical college in Malabe, during the discussion held at the ministry with the participation of the Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella, State Minister Mohan Lal Grero, Secretary of the Ministry D.C. Dissanayake, UGC chairman Prof. P.S.M. Gunaratne and the deans of all eight state medical faculties.
During the meeting, suggestions have been put forward to allow current M.B.B.S. holders as well as students graduating from SAITM to receive one month’s training in a variety of medical specialties upon graduation.
