German monk found dead in Marawila

A 72-year-old Buddhist monk of German nationality, Rolf Werman, who was later ordained with the name Hikkaduwe Punyarathana, has died under mysterious circumstances at a tourist hotel. 

The Marawila police stated that the Buddhist priest was believed to have been staying at the hotel in Marawila, when the incident occurred. 

The monk was found unresponsive in his room by the police, who later confirmed that the monk had passed away in the room itself. 

The deceased body has been transferred to the Base Hospital in Marawila for the required autopsy and further investigations have gotten underway. 

Marawila Police stated that the German Embassy in Colombo has been notified of the incident.
