PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa, June 18 (KUNA) -- Ten man Germany was expected to defeat Serbia, but the latter drew first blood and thanks to yellow-card happy referee, held on to a 1-0 lead in the second half on Friday.
At Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Serbia achieved their first win in the 19th World Cup finals of Group (D) and now the group standings is looking very interesting indeed.
Serbia player Milan Jovanovic’s first-half strike earned his country a 1-0 victory over a Germany side who lost German Striker Miroslav Klose to a red card and saw Lukas Podolski misses a penalty.
In the frist round, Serbia lost their first game to Ghana, making a win against Germany almost unfathomable after Deutschland’s 4-1 drubbing of the Aussies.
The group (D) now has Germany, Ghana, and Serbia all equal with three points followed by Australia without any point.
Tomorrow Ghana will play against Australia for the rest of the group games.
