The Consumer affairs authority stated that they have drawn their attention to the abolishing of the control price on white sugar, given the fact that the world price of white sugar had been going up in international markets as well.
Under the Consumer affairs authority act, the price of white sugar was set at Rs. 93 per kilogram, on the 27 January.
Investigations into the retailing price of white sugar revealed that the stocks were constantly sold above the set control price due to the world price of white sugar increasing, the authority revealed.
They added that if the imports of white sugar were restricted, the country is likely to face severe shortages of white sugar.
Therefore, a decision has been made to abolish the control price set on white sugar, the authority stated.
