The Sri Lankan Navy has stated that the investigation report on the shooting of an Indian fisherman, that had allegedly been carried out by members of the Sri Lankan navy, will be released in two weeks time.
The shooting had supposedly occurred in the Kachathiv area, killing one and injuring several other fisherman from Tamil Nadu, Indian Media reporters reveal.
The Sri Lankan Navy has rejected any accusations linking themselves to the incident.
Meanwhile, Vice President Hamid Ansari with its President Maithripala Sirisena who told him that he has ordered a thorough probe into the incident.
Ansari, during his interaction with the accompanying media persons while returning from Jakarta after a two-day visit last night, said, "The President said he had heard about it this morning and that he had spoken to the Chief of the Sri Lankan Navy who had said that no such incident from the side of the Sri Lankan forces took place."
The Foreign affairs Ministry stated that initial investigations into the situations showed no evidence of the Sri Lankan Navy being involved.
However the President of Sri Lanka has conveyed his deepest sympathies to the families of the affected, and have cooperated with the Indian government to help find the person responsible, using the help of satellite technology.
