
The Health ministry has decided to set up a Sexual Health Unit in all major Government hospitals around the country.
The director of the programme to prevent the spreading of H.I.V and Sexual Health Diseases, Dr. Sisira Liyanage stated that the main goal of this initiative is to identify individuals with H.I.V and help prevent the spreading of the disease, as well as improving the quality of life of those affected.
Hospitals in Homagama, Thangalla, Ambilipitiya, Gampola, Padawiya and Dambulla will be the amongst the first set of Hospitals to receive this unit at their premises, he added.
Fifty individuals have been identified as H.I.V positive ad been identified in January of 2017, alone.
Liayange stated that a majority of the diagnosed were males, between the ages of 25 and 45, who were sexually active, at the time of the study.
