Suffer the consequences now, JVP tells Wimal

‘If committed offenses, suffer the consequences,’ this is the slogan we have to tell Wimal Weerawansa, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said Wednesday.

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed this view while speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Colombo.

“When a thief is arrested, what is the point if he argues that many thieves are out there at large,” Dissanayake asked. The leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF), Wimal Weerawansa, was a former strong member of the JVP, and he joined the government of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2008.

He pointed out Weerawansa should understand and admit to the fact that Rajapaksa does not care for him as much as he cares for Rajapaksa.

“There are several types of frauds in Sri Lanka. In some cases, properties earned through illegal means are found but the thief could not be traced, or the thief is there, no charges against him,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dissanayake also slammed the Prime Minister and several figures of the United National Party (UNP) over alleged attempts to safeguard the persons behind the controversial bond sale.

Dissanayake charged the UNP group of attempting to weaken the process of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) with respect of the bond sale.
