Sri Lankan Police will be following a new security plan for the upcoming festive season.

Additional police officials will be placed in congested areas such as Colombo, other major cities around the country and near areas with deep running waters, Ada Derana reporters learnt.

Non-uniformed police officers too will be placed in certain areas, to further heighten levels of public security.

Police Media spokesperson, Priyantha Jayakody stated that the security measures taken will be strictly adhered to in the days following up to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Police will further carry out awareness programmes for the public; regarding the different ways they can follow to enjoy the festivities in the safest way possible.
