Couple killed, daughters injured in fatal crash

Two persons were killed while another two were wounded following a head-on collision involving a lorry and a three-wheeler near the 86th Mile Post on the Batticaloa-Polonnaruwa main road this evening.
Police said that four members of the same family – a father, mother and their two daughters – who were traveling in the three-wheeler were rushed to the Mananpitiya Hospital following the crash.
However, the two parents had succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Meanwhile the two girls have been transferred to the Polonnaruwa Hospital for further treatment.
The deceased have been identified as W.D.C.D. Ramyalatha (37) and Y.B.L.W. Nihal (37), who are residents of Mahindagama in Welikanda.
