
A woman in Sapugaskanda has been arrested on charges of allegedly attempting to bribe police officers.
The Police Headquarters stated that she had allegedly bribed the police in an attempt to prevent legal action against a suspect who had been arrested on charges of heroin trafficking.
The police succeeded in arresting a main suspect in a drug network yesterday (10), based on information retrieved from a heroin dealer who was arrested with 100 mg of heroin.
The Police Headquarters revealed that the suspect had involved a 15-year-old girl in the drug racket who was also arrested by the Sapugaskanda police.
It was amidst the investigations into said smuggling that a sister of the chief suspect arrived at the Sapugaskanda Police and offered to pay the Officer in Charge (OIC) Rs. 500,000 as a bribe.
She had also offered the OIC Rs. 250,000 in cash on the spot.
The Police Headquarters stated that she was then arrested at the scene, together with the bribe money, on charges of bribing police officials.
