A fight between two parties had broken out at a Hindu kovil in Wathuyaya, Kuduoya of Hatton, leaving 1 dead and 4 severely injured, Hatton Police say.
Police state that the dispute occurred yesterday (18) at the Muthumariamman Kovil, shortly after the closing of a 5 day-long festival.
The 26-year-old deceased individual, M. Pushparaj, is said to be a resident of the same area and a father of one.
The death occurred at the kovil after the victim was stabbed with a sharp object.
The 4 injured were admitted to the Dikoya Base Hospital, after which they were transferred to the Nawalapitiya Base Hospital, owing to the severity of their injuries.
Whilst 2 suspects were arrested yesterday (18), the Hatton Police Department is currently conducting a search operation for the main suspect who fled from the scene of the crime.
The suspects, injured, and the deceased are all said to be residents of the Kuduoya area.
Police state that an investigation is being conducted into the incident.
