Gampola abduction case: uncle, two women remanded
Mobitel Inner

The 26-year-old uncle and two other women who had allegedly involved in the Gampola child abduction case have been remanded until 18 May, Ada Derana reporter said.

The suspects were remanded after being produced before the Gampola Magistrate’s Court on Sunday afternoon.

The two-year-old child who was abducted near the Gampola bus stand on May 3 was found in Batticaloa last morning.

The investigation into the case took a new turn last Thursday after police found that it was child’s uncle who abducted the boy before fleeing the area. However, initial reports suggested that the child and the relative were abducted while they were on their way home.

According to the mother, her child had left with the uncle to deliver a meal prepared for her husband on the day of the abduction. However, the uncle in question had not delivered the meal and vanished without a trace later that day. Two other women, a mother and a daughter, were also arrested later on the allegation of assisting the main suspect.
