The Fundamental Rights petition filed by former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga seeking an order to revoke the decision to freeze his bank accounts was re-fixed for support on August 21 by the Supreme Court today.
The State Council informed the Court that the investigations with respect to the bank accounts have not yet been concluded, Ada Derana reporter said.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has also issued a warrant for the arrest of Weeratunga in October, 2016.
His bank accounts have been frozen over the ongoing investigation following the agreement with Ukrainian firm Ukrinmash to buy four MiG fighters at a cost of USD 2.462 million each as well as overhauling four existing SLAF MiG-27 aircraft.
