Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka has no political or economic motives, High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka, Taranjit Singh Sandhu says.

He said that the Indian PM’s only intention was to participate in the UN Vesak Day celebrations as the Chief Guest.

Modi will be arriving in Sri Lanka on the 11 in order to partake in the UN Vesak Day celebrations, which will be held from the 12 to the 14.

The High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka stated that Modi would be attending a programme at the Gangarama Temple in the evening of 11, and thereafter meet with President Maithripala Sirisena for dinner.

On the 12, he will be travelling to the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy for the International Vesak Day celebrations. After worshipping at the Temple, he will reportedly be meeting the Malwathu Asgiri theros.

The Indian PM will also be declaring open the new wards of the Dikoya Hospital in Hatton, which was built using funds from India.
