An investigation report with respect to the shooting occurred in Piliyandala which claimed the life of a cop has been called by the Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake.
Minister Ratnayake has directed the IGP to forward the investigation report within three days, it was reported.
The Minister has also directed the IGP to clarify reasons as to why a team attached to the Police Narcotic Bureau was deployed for a probe of this manner without proper preparation.
A police Constable was killed and five others including two children, who were at the location when a group of unidentified persons had opened fire at them, were also injured and hospitalized last evening.
The shooting occurred at around 8.30 pm, according to police.
The IGP has appointed senior DIG M.R. Latiff to investigate the incident.
