Racism and religious disputes must never be allowed to rear their ugly heads, and if someone violates the law in a racist or religious extremist capacity, the Police have a duty and a responsibility to take necessary action against them, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
The Prime Minister stated this during his address at a ceremony of the National Youth Services Council which was held today (23) at the ‘Temple Trees’.
He also stated that the GSP+ trade concession must be utilized for the development of the country, and added that the basis for said development was political progress, democracy and unity.
PM Wickremesinghe proceeded to say that certain groups were attempting to divide the country by spreading racism and creating religious disputes, and that it was the duty of the whole country take a stand against them and quell their attempts of sabotage.
He then said that religion was an institution that brought people together and not one that divided people, adding that the responsibility of spreading peace and harmony was vested in the citizens of our country.
