
The warning of landslides and collapsing of bunds is to be heeded till 1.00 pm today (02), given that continuous rainfall is received.
The warning was issued once again to the 7 districts at risk by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) yesterday (01).
The 7 districts are as follows:
Ratnapura
Kegalle
Galle
Kalutara
Matara
Hambantota
Nuwara Eliya
The occupants of the identified danger zones have accordingly been advised to evacuate.
Measures were taken yesterday (01) to evacuate residents from Pitabeddara, Athu-Ela and Thalapekumbura areas of Matara.
A group of the evacuated residents are currently seeking shelter at the Thalapekumbura College, according to reports.
Meanwhile, Police also stated that 7 more families had been evacuated from the foot of Millakanda Pahalagama, Bulathsinhala, due to the impending risk of a landslide.
