A stock of Dextran, the medicine used to treat Dengue patients, is expected to arrive on the island today (05), Medical Supplies Division (MSD) said.
Director of the MSD, Dr. Lal Panapitiya stated that the Government possessed all medication needed for the treatment of Dengue.
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) complained of a shortage of Dextran a few days ago.
Dr. Panapitiya refuted this and confirmed that there was no such shortage.
However, Media Spokesperson of the GMOA, Dr. Samantha Ananda stated that steps were taken to import the relevant drug stock only after the GMOA brought the shortage to attention.
Dr. Lal Panapitiya also stated that the Ministry of Health alone could not control the spread of Dengue on their own.
