The compilation of the report on the Meethotamulla garbage heap collapse has been completed, sources confirmed.

The report was compiled by a 14-person expert panel from the University of Peradeniya.

It was submitted to the ASP of the Police Environmental Unit, D. K. Manoj yesterday (06), and will be submitted to the court on Monday (12).

Coordinator of the panel, Dr. Jayalath Edirisinghe announced that the report paid special attention to 12 specific points.

Upon accepting the report, ASP D. K. Manoj announced that the Meethotamulla accident was not an act of sabotage.

Meanwhile, the Western Province Waste Management Authority stated that a large-scale waste management programme must be implemented.

Director of the Authority, Nalin Mannapperuma states that 50 percent of the existing waste could be managed appropriately by 2020 through such a programme.

He added that agreements must also be signed with private institutions undertaking waste management.
