Tobacco cultivation will be banned by 2020 - Rajitha

Tobacco cultivation in Sri Lanka will be completely banned by year 2020, Minister of Health, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne stated to the Parliament.

The Health Minister stated this in response to a question raised by Member of Parliament (MP) Buddhika Pathirana during parliamentary proceedings today (07), Ada Derana parliament reporter said.

Dr. Rajitha Senaratne had reportedly also added that the government had already taken many steps to minimize the use of tobacco and narcotics in Sri Lanka.

The Minister further stated that the individual sale of cigarettes and the sale of cigarettes in stores near schools would be banned in near future.
