The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant for the former Directress of the National Blood Bank, Dr. Mangalika Bindusara.
Ada Derana court correspondent stated that the arrest warrant was issued on charges of allegedly importing expired blood plasma packs and using the expired plasma on patients.
The case against Dr. Mangalika Bindusara was filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
When the case was summoned before the Court today (07), Dr. Bindusara had reportedly failed to appear for the hearing.

Accordingly, after reviewing all the facts before him, the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Justice Lal Ranasinghe Bandara issued a warrant for the arrest of Dr. Bindusara.
The Chief Magistrate also issued summons for the sureties, Ada Derara court correspondent stated.
Accordingly, the hearing has been postponed till August 09.
Meanwhile, the second defendant, a former doctor of the National Blood Bank is said to be eluding the Court.
The Bribery Commission has requested permission from the Court to proceed with the case without said doctor.
