Govt to lift ban on motorcycle helmets

The Government has agreed to lift the ban on the use of riding helmets that completely cover the rider’s face, the Ceylon Motorcyclists Association (CMA) said.

The Association revealed that several unions including the CMA had participated in a discussion with the relevant government officials at the Ministry of Transport premises.

President of the CMA, Chirantha Amarasinghe confirmed that the Government had taken steps to amend the relevant gazette notice issued.

The Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety (NCRS), Sisira Kodagoda announced that the amended gazette notice would be issued after taking into consideration the ideas of the parties concerned.
