Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ravi Karunanayake states that the garbage piled in and around Colombo must be cleared within the next 4 days.
The Minister also stated that the Armed Forces could be utilized for the task of clearing the garbage accumulated in and around the city of Colombo.
He proceeded to add that the game of tug-of-war between government institutions was causing distress to the citizens.
Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner & Officer Implementing the Powers & Function of the Colombo Municipal Council, V. K. A. Anura stated that strict legal action would be taken against those caught disposing of garbage in areas belonging to the Colombo Municipal Council.
Addressing this situation, MP S. M. Marikkar representing the United National Party (UNP) also stated that the Government must take swift action to solve the rising problem of waste disposal.
