The resources of the country are being sold to foreign nations and the Government intends to drag the attention of people from this in a bid to pave the way, the Joint Opposition alleged on Tuesday.

JO MP Bandula Gunawardena made the observation at a press conference held in Colombo.

He pointed out there is a move to sell a state owned land at D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha to an Indian company. “They are going to Indianize the D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha which is the heart of Colombo,” he said.

Gunawardena added the Government is allegedly eyeing to sell the 3 acre state owned land to the Indian company after getting the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers.

He said it has also been proposed to build a 75 story housing scheme at the location. “There are entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka who would invest in a project of this kind,” Gunawardena stressed.

He also urged the President not to give the Cabinet’s approval for projects which aim to sell the resources of the country.
