The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development has built a breeding center for the breeding of three species of expensive export fish.
The new breeding center is located in Dharmapuram, Batticaloa and the estimated cost incurred is Rs. 150 million.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held tomorrow (28), the Ministry announced.
The commercial fish species of Mudilla, Grouper fish and Pompfret are expected to be bred in the newly established breeding center.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development also stated that the Center aimed to produce 2 million fish annually. The fish will be diverted to external fishermen to facilitate maturity and subsequent export.
The Center aims to generate an income of Rs. 1 billion per year.
