
Employees of the Inland Revenue Department will be conducting a token strike today (07), to oppose the proposed draft of the Inland Revenue Act.
The Joint Committee of Trade Unions of the Sri Lanka Inland Revenue Service expressed their views on the draft Act during a media briefing yesterday (06).
H.A.L. Udayasiri, Convenor of the Joint Committee of Trade Unions of the Sri Lanka Inland Revenue Service stated that the Act had been drafted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and proposed the incurring of taxes from religious places of worship, welfare societies and ‘maranadara’ societies (death donation societies) as well.
The General Secretary of the National Inland Revenue General Employees’ Union, Ajith Pushpakumara added that the Government had not conducted discussions with trade unions regarding the proposed Act.
