
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today further remanded former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s driver till July 18.
The suspect and another individual were previously arrested over the alleged misuse of state-owned property.
Ada Derana court correspondent stated that the Court today (11) ordered that the two arrestees be placed in remand custody till July 18.
The two suspects, Tissa Wimalasena and Lal Sirisena were arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) for allegedly running a rock quarry illegally on land belonging to the Land Reclamation Commission, consequently costing the Government over Rs. 20 million in losses.
Colombo Additional Magistrate, Chanima Wijebandara also made a ruling on the suspects’ request for bail and stated that sufficient information was not provided to support grant of bail.
Meanwhile, the Counsel representing the 2nd suspect Lal Sirisena informed the Court that his client was prepared to give a confidential statement to the Magistrate.
