An individual was arrested today (11) by Mawathagama Police over the torture of a minor using hot water.

However, the arrest was made by police some 25 days after the incident had occurred.

The ninth grader was alone at his residence, when three individuals who had arrived at his house, used an electrical heater to heat water, which was later poured over the child.

They had then proceeded to burning the child’s face with the electrical heater.

It has been reported that the child’s neighbors had later admitted him to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

A hospital spokesperson stated that the child is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit, for the incident that took place on June 16.

Parents of the victim had made a complaint regarding the delay in arresting  the suspects involved.

However, when contacted by Ada Derana reporters, the Mawathagama Police Station said that a suspect was arrested following a statement obtained from the child yesterday (10).

Police further added that investigations are being carried out to identify the two other individuals involved in this inhuman act.
