Police make 772 arrests during special operation

Sri Lanka Police succeeded in arresting 772 warrantees as a result of a special island-wide operation which was launched yesterday (12).
 
The special crime prevention operation was conducted across the island from 1.00 am till 5.00 am yesterday, with the participation of around 14,000 Police officers.
 
A total of 110 suspects wanted in connection with various crimes had been arrested under the special operation, whilst 85 more had been arrested over the possession of heroin.
 
Police Headquarters also reported that 264 cases related to cannabis, 221 cases involving illicit liquor, and 124 cases over sand transport and waste disposal had been received during the aforementioned time period.
 
In addition to this another 368 cases of driving under the influence (DUI), 320 cases of driving without a license, and 22 cases of reckless driving had also been received.

Police Headquarters added that 03 firearms, one hand grenade and 22 g of heroin had been taken into Police custody as a result of the special operation.
