
Minister of Education, Viraj Kariyawasam stated that certain groups have been trying to manipulate the ideology behind Buddhism, to make it something that it isn’t.
He added that certain individuals have been trying to divert the public’s attention towards other issues, in order to cover up certain acts of corruption carried out by the culprits behind the work.
He went onto say that suspicions have arisen regarding the behavior exhibited, being used as a tool to destroy Buddhism in the country, while adding on that the allocation of money collected at temple tills to the development of the temple being an age old tradition.
Meanwhile, MP Ranjith Zoysa stated that it was not right for the government to intervene in the financial contributions made by the public to the temples for their development, adding on that many people do not appreciate the government intervening on the matter.
The statements were brought out while addressing a question posed by a journalist in Ratnapura, during a media briefing.
