The Minister of Transport, Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that drone operations would be regulated in future, in order to ensure air safety and protect the privacy of the people.
He stated this upon corresponding with the Ada Derana reporter at the Seminar on Sri Lanka’s Regulations on Drone Operations, which was held in Colombo today (14).
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva explained that the Aviation Authority had formulated regulations to govern drone operations, and added that the aim of the seminar was to discuss said regulations in detail with the relevant stakeholders, and make the necessary amendments.
In response to a question raised by the Ada Derana reporter, the Minister stated that measures would be taken to gazette the finalized regulations in "two to three weeks".
He explained that there were “international obligations we have to fulfil in order to ensure that our sky is safe.”
“This is a step forward for the aviation industry in Sri Lanka and the aviation security in Sri Lanka,” the Minister said.
