Uma Oya project: report to be submitted by ministerial sub-committee today

The report compiled by the ministerial sub-committee on the Uma Oya Multi-purpose Development Project (UMODP) is due to be presented to the cabinet today (18).

 

A three-person ad hoc committee led by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera was appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena, in order to investigate the issues surrounding the UOMDP.

 

The elected ad hoc committee proceeded to conduct a field survey in Bandarawela.

 

The report compiled using the findings of said survey is due to be presented today (18), according to sources.

 

In addition to the report, a special cabinet paper addressing the provision of relief for those adversely affected by the UOMDP will also be presented to the cabinet today (18).

 

The cabinet paper is said to include proposals regarding compensation for damages sustained by houses and cultivations as well as provision of solutions for the lack of clean drinking water in the affected regions.

 

The cabinet paper is due to be submitted by State Minister of Mahaweli Development, Mahinda Amaraweera, who presided over the ad hoc committee.
