8 students hospitalized following explosion in school in Kokkilai

The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office reported that an explosion had occurred today (18) at the Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya of Kokkilai.
6 female students and 2 male students who were affected by the impact of the explosion have been admitted to the Mancholai Hospital. Police reported that the students had not sustained any visible physical injuries.
Upon conducting an examination of the scene of the explosion, Police officers attached to the Kokkilai Police Station deduced that the explosion had been caused by gelignite, an explosive used for blast fishing.
Police are conducting further investigations into the accident.
